A Pithead at Darley?

HPIM1857a3 200
PH-IMG_0215a

This photograph shows a feature that is unique in the area and in the experience of those who have seen it. There are indications that it is of some considerable depth but it is blocked by garden debris and at present it is unsafe for further investigation. There are interior details that suggest mining and a pithead is its most likely purpose

The photographs below show two views of the entrance to the structure. There are "humps and bumps" nearby and two sections of field wall (not shown) that incorporate the standing walls of old buildings. In addition the field wall near the structure includes individual stones that came from a building of some quality, including mullions and drainage channels.
