Newsletter, January 2009
Dear All,
May we begin by wishing you all a very Happy New Year and all the best for 2009.
The digging year will start on Tuesday 13th January at 10am with a regular day out on the hill. There will be several Feature Digs under Kevin's excellent supervision during this "term" and we have a number of talks to look forward to over the coming months, as well as a display stand at the Historic Environment Day in Northallerton. So, it's a busy time, even before we pick up our trowels!
Here are the dates for your diaries:
Wednesday 21 January 2pm "Iron Smelting in Nidderdale" - A talk for the Science Group of the Harrogate U3A at St. Robert's Centre, Robert Street, Harrogate
Monday 16 February 2009 7.30pm A presentation about the project for the Nidderdale Society at the Village Hall in Dacre Banks.
Saturday 21 February 10am-4.30pm Display at the Historic Environment Day at the Hambledon Forum, Northallerton
Thursday 26 February 7.30pm Talk on "Medieval Iron" for the Washburn Heritage Group at the Robinson Library in Timble.
Thursday 5 March 7.45pm Talk on the project for the Harrogate Lecture Society at Wesley Chapel in Harrogate.
If you know of any societies etc who would appreciate a talk by us, do let us know! And, of course, do feel free to come along to the talks as a Project Member.
We look forward to seeing you on the 13th!

As ever, may we remind you all that the site is on an exposed hillside and waterproofs/suncream
and stout footwear are definitely required. May we stress that the site is on private property with
no public right of way - access must be accompanied by a group leader at all times.
